THE FOUNDER

Regin Rose has been actively participated in social and political groups like Young Christians Student Movement, Ilaignar Iyakkam (Youth group), and Neithal Makkal Iyakkam. He has also worked with NGOs like HEAL, Saanaikkal, Anali and Aims India towards the betterment of underprivileged children by helping them grow through education and art. He was an actor for 5 years in Naanjil Natham – A Centre for Art in Nagercoil. 

His persistent passion and zeal towards theatre arts from his childhood made him to pursue theatre arts as his career after his initial Under-Graduation in Mathematics from Scott Christian College. In 2009-2011 he pursued his Post-Graduation Degree in Theatre from the Department of Performing Arts from Pondicherry Central University. Where, he studied under the tutelage of Tamil Theatre experts, Prof. Raju, Prof. Aarumugam, Prof. Raja Ravivarma and theatre directors Mr. Velu Saravanan, Mr. Velayudham, Mr. Murugavel, Mr. Bhushan, Mr. Prabat Bhaskaran, Prof. S. Raveendran and with Mr. Jairo from Columbia.

He was also a part of Manalmagudi, a Theatre Group from Kovilpatti. Under the direction of Mr. Murugaboopathy he worked in Mirugavithooshagam and Soorpanangu.

Later he joined India’s premier institution for theatre, The National School of Drama (NSD) and took acting as his specialisation in the three year course. There he was trained by India’s leading Theatre Trainers and Directors viz. Anuradha Kapoor, Keerthi Jain, Tripurari Sharma, Robin Das, Abhilash Pillai, Suresh Shetty, Hema Singh, Amitesh, Dinesh Khanna, and Abdul Latif from India. He also was trained by some of the leading Visting Professors from around the world.

He took up a one year research for the well-being of Transgenders in the topic ‘The role of transgenders in Tamilnadu’s performing arts’ at the National School of Drama.

He has also completed a one year diploma course in TV & Film production from Pondicherry University.

He has acted in 30 full length plays and in more than 50 short plays. He currently works as an actor under Tamil theatre directors Mangai and Srijith. He has acted in more than 10 short films. His short film ‘Telephone’, a L.V.Prasad Film Institute Diploma Project, won him the Best Actor Award in Neyveli Book Fair’s short film competition. His other short film ‘Ullangai Nellikkani’ was also well received and became popular.

He has done important roles in notable Feature Films, he was the acting trainer and the casting director for the International Award Winning and National Award Winning film Tolet, Directed by Chezhiyan and also in Sreekandan’s Thappu Thanda.

He takes the role of a trainer/ visiting faculty/ acting department organizer in Chennai’s leading acting schools like Koothu-p-pattarai, Mindscreen Film Institute, Stone Bench, Stanislavsky Acting School, Theatre Lab, J.V Media Dreams, and Iris Academy.

As a Founder Director of Chennai based theatre group ‘Medai ‘, he has directed many renowned Theatre Plays like Agamemnon, Rice water, and Mother of 1084. His plays gain popularity for its intense storyline and fine direction and his work towards direction and acting in theatre plays, casting for films and training actors continues with a zest.

Chennai Theatre Academy, an institute for acting and theatre was founded by Regin Rose in January 2019, with an intense motive of raising and developing Theatre Arts in Chennai in par with the International Standards and to encourage and bring out the talents of aspiring actors.
